Did you know that according to the National Coalition of Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner? In addition, 1 in 15 children have witnessed domestic violence in their homes.
The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Purple Light Nights was a campaign started right here in Covington, to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence, provide resources and information for those who need it, to honor those who lost their lives from domestic violence, and to celebrate those who have survived.

The original Covington Domestic Violence Task Force that started this tradition is still receiving donations and providing assistance, but no longer has the resources to coordinate this event. The community appreciates all of the work that has been done over the years, and still finds value in keeping this tradition alive.

The walk is free, but a $25 suggested donation will be divided between several local non-profits that provide resources to victims of domestic violence. In addition, registered walkers and runners will receive an LED tea light to carry during the event and take home to keep the light shining.

We hope you will join us on September 27th in the Fred Meyer parking lot next to the Don Henning Round-a-bout. We will have refreshments provided as well as resource tables, donation opportunities, and time to connect with neighbors and friends.
