Did you know that according to the National Coalition of Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner? In addition, 1 in 15 children have witnessed domestic violence in their homes.
The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Purple Light Nights was a campaign started right here in Covington, to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence, provide resources and information for those who need it, to honor those who lost their lives from domestic violence, and to celebrate those who have survived.

We hope you will join us on September 26th in the Fred Meyer parking lot next to the Don Henning Round-a-bout. We will have refreshments, as well as resource tables, donation opportunities, and time to connect with neighbors and friends.
6:00 PM — Community Walk for Awareness
We begin the evening with a community walk, symbolizing our shared commitment to supporting survivors, uplifting those currently experiencing abuse, and honoring the lives taken by domestic violence. Walking side by side reminds us that no one in our community should ever have to walk their path alone.
7:30 PM — Purple Light Nights Community Tree Lighting
At dusk, we gather for a powerful moment of unity as we illuminate the community tree in purple — the official color of domestic violence awareness. This ceremony launches Covington’s participation in the Purple Light Nights campaign, a movement that encourages every household, business, and community space to display a purple light throughout the month of October.
By lighting up Covington, we send a clear message:
We support survivors.
We stand with those experiencing abuse.
We honor those we have lost.
And we are taking action — together.
This event is also supported by the City of Covington and Covington Fred Meyer.
